2014 Stampin’ Up! Cruise Swap Cards – Vintage Style

Every year all Stampin’ Up! Demonstrators have the chance to earn an all expenses paid ‘Grand Vacation’ for two somewhere yummy and/or exotic.  We always have a chance to swap some handmade cards with others on the Grand Vacation and this is the card I made multiples of to swap with others on the cruise.

I know I’ve made these vellum flowers before but I really enjoy making them so I decided to use them again.  Plus there will be lots of Stampin’ Up! Demonstrators on the trip from the United States, Europe, Canada and New Zealand so I’m guessing  there’d be very few (if any?) who saw my vellum flowers anyway – may as well resurrect a fun idea!

This card has a lot going on in it so I’m going to give brief instructions about all the bits and pieces rather than step by step, but please feel free to comment or email me to ask if you have any questions about the card.

* The centre of the card has been sanded down with some sandpaper to reveal the ‘white core’ of the Core’dinations cardstock and then I stamped over the top of it randomly.  This gives that vintage/shabby chic feel to it with a bit of depth – kind of reminds of of old wallpaper.

* To get the Seam Binding ribbon all scrunchy, I simply put my hand under the tap with running water, then (away from the tap) I grabbed the whole ribbon and scrunched it up.  This made the ribbon damp and scrunched without being soaking wet and then I let it dry in the sun.  You can use the heat gun on it if you want to speed things up.  The bow is also a ‘double bow’ – quite simply I made one bow then threaded some more ribbon under it and made another bow.  Just makes it look fuller.

* The clear Vintage faceted button has been attached by threading some Linen Thread through the button and tying it around the middle of the bow with the knot underneath.

* The little butterfly is simply punched out from Natural Composition Specialty Paper which already has the embossing through it.  Gorgeous paper! punching a tiny bit out doesn’t do it justice but I love the extra texture.

* The greeting is from a bigger image that has flowers with it, but punching it out I was able to use just the greeting.

That’s about it.  Here’s a close up for you.
